Senior Electronic and Instrumentation Technologist The Centre for Academic Technology (CAT) at The University of Winnipeg provides campus‑wide leadership, direction, training, services and support for a broad range of technologies used in teaching, learning, research, and administration. CAT seeks a full‑time continuing Senior Electronic and Instrumentation Technologist to provide in‑house support for scientific and electronic instrumentation, equipment and technologies. Responsibilities Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate and repair a wide variety of scientific lab equipment including major data acquisition and processing systems, stand‑alone instruments, electronic test equipment, and related PC operating systems. Write or modify software code and manage networking and database tasks as needed. Instruct faculty and staff on safe use and operation of systems and equipment. Provide support and updates for TSS‑managed servers and applications. Design, prototype, test, fabricate and implement specialized electronic and mechanical devices using machining and electronics expertise. Assist in providing support on audio‑visual equipment and other technologies, including smart‑classroom installations. Plan and schedule work based on Science department priorities and equipment availability. Maintain spare‑parts inventory, technical files, and equipment catalogues. Evaluate new scientific equipment, hardware and software and make purchase recommendations. Keep current technical knowledge in scientific instrumentation, hardware, software and electronics through self‑study, training and coursework. Qualifications Completion of a 2‑year Diploma in Electronic, Computer, or Instrumentation Technology from an accredited post‑secondary institution. Formal training in scientific disciplines such as chemistry or physics, and knowledge of networking, server and application support, machining, welding and prototyping. CTTAM certification is an asset. Six years of directly related experience in scientific instrumentation support. Strong knowledge of hand tools, powered machine‑shop equipment, and complex specialist equipment in both computerized and non‑computerized environments. Proficiency with Microsoft and Linux operating systems, Windows servers, and PC applications (MS Word, Excel, email). Well‑developed troubleshooting, problem‑solving, interpersonal, machining, prototyping and welding skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Condition(s) of Employment Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Salary range: $71,890.00 – $99,772.40 per year. Work location: In‑person.
