The Opportunity The Third Party Residential Underwriting Division provides underwriting expertise and services on behalf of other financial institutions to the Canadian Mortgage Broker channel. Reporting to the vice president Residential Underwriting, the Assistant Vice President provides leadership to a management team of directors. Residential Underwriting teams consist of Mortgage Underwriters, Associate Mortgage Underwriters, and Mortgage Funders. Under the guidance and leadership of the vice president, the Division is responsible for assessment of mortgage applications for third party clients, in making lending decisions in adherence of the established mortgage under the guidelines and sets of the client policies. Turnaround targets are reached by the schedule of assigned lessons. Review internal and external auditing results to ensure company guidelines and procedures. Implement action plans so that teams are in compliance. Communicate monthly status to the team. Control and manage the branch underwriting activities adhere with guidelines. Analyze credit and property risk. Review approved and rejected applications for risk. Approve mortgage applications within assigned limits escalated to the proper level. Communicate policy changes and updates to the division. Build and maintain broker plan relationships including escalators. Build and maintain third party client relationships. Communicate rate changes. Develop and keep relationships with brokers to build loyalty for the third party underwriting team. Attend management meetings. Adhere to policies to ensure AML requirements when applicable. Complete special projects as assigned. Team Management Responsibilities Ensure team has solid understanding of client policies and product knowledge. Provide direction to team members on policy interpretation and corporate guidelines. Facilitate regular meetings to provide updates on team performance and change. Encourage participation and feedback from team leaders to continue improve processes. Identify team and individual performance gaps. Communicate performance gaps, set action plans and training. Provide feedback to team leaders on audit reviews. Coach managers on performance and customer service expectations. Participate in recruitment process. Salary administration. Conduct annual performance reviews and set performance goals. The Requirements Required Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience preferred. People management skills of coaching and development. Ability to build and maintain relationships.
