Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card Platform) Affirm – Greater St. John’s Metropolitan Area. Join the Card Engineering team to build tools and systems that manage money movement, bank data integration, and merchant data for our debit‑card-based financing product. Responsibilities Drive planning and prioritization of projects based on product, technical, and business goals. Work cross‑functionally with Experience, Accounting, Product, and Analytics to set and execute the money‑movement strategy for the debit card. Build APIs and data models within a micro‑service and event‑driven architecture. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to processes that support team growth and efficiency. Qualifications 4+ years of experience as a software engineer. Strong understanding of distributed systems and the impact of architectural decisions on performance and maintainability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient in asynchronous communication. High degree of organization and project‑management skills. Experience extending core money‑movement systems in collaboration with Product. Passion for working with multi‑functional teams. Python/Kotlin development experience is a plus. Experience with AWS and/or other cloud providers is a plus. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience. Optional Skills / Experience Exposure to ACH system. Exposure to accounting/auditing systems. Prior experience with card networks. Compensation and Benefits Pay Grade: NEquity Grade: 6Base pay range per year: $150,000 – $200,000A total compensation package may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). Remote First: The role is remote‑first; you may work from anywhere within the country of employment, with occasional onsite visits to the Assigned Office.
