JOB SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the 3rd Class Engineer will assist power plant operations and maintenance at the Dundas, Ontario location. This position is mainly responsible for supporting and troubleshooting all of the power plant operations of the Dundas facility with a focus on the safe, efficient operation of a 1st Class high pressure steam plant, compressor systems, water treatment and air quality control systems.



SCHEDULE : MONDAY TO FRIDAY ROTATING SHIFTS (DAYS, AFTERNOONS AND NIGHTS) OVERTIME IS AVAILABLE AFTER 40 HOURS



RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensure current and future departmental compliance with all standards, including the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, CFIA, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining, enhancing, developing and compliance with the HACCP plan, GMP's, SOP's and procedures within the department, and when overlapping with other departments and business units
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • 3rd Class Operating Engineer certified
  • Working towards getting a 2nd Class certification within 6 months
  • Experience in a rendering or food manufacturing environment is a definite asset but not required
  • Post-secondary education and/or University Degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Science, or related field considered an asset
  • Experience with boilers, water treatment equipment and other related equipment.
  • Experience in operation of air quality control system preferred.
  • Maintenance of boilers, water, steam distribution system and air quality control system
  • Mechanical aptitude with above average troubleshooting skills is required
  • Comfortable working 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Reliable, punctual and self motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Comfortable working overtime when and if required
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards
  • Must be able to work comfortably and safely in elevated areas and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to climb up to 6 flights of metal stairs safely
  • Must be able to climb standard ladders
  • Previous experience driving a forklift
  • Must be able to stretch and view difficult areas
  • Must be able to walk up to 1km multiple times per day due to size of facility
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and over radio
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time (up to 2 hours at a time)
  • Must be able to stand for up to 10-15 minutes at a time
  • Must be able to travel to and from rural plant location or have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel domestically up to 1-2 times per year (infrequent). International travel may be required (very infrequent)
  • Walking, standing, moving climbing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Position includes utilization of computer systems in the plant and office.
  • Typical of a food manufacturing plant environment including high volume of raw material smell, changeable weather and temperature conditions
  • Noise level from moderate to high
