Position Summary:

The Intake Worker, Family Violence is part of the Community Safety and Well-Being division, providing direct support to individuals impacted by family violence. This role involves developing supportive, non-judgmental, and strength-based relationships while offering resources, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and assistance via a tired intervention model that addresses the urgent and complex safety needs for domestic violence survivors. The intake worker is responsible for coordinating referrals and participant enrollment for the Community Outreach and Furniture Programs. The responsibilities include conducting intake interviews, assessing suitability for the program, and being present for furniture deliveries.

Through these responsibilities, the Intake Worker plays a critical role in promoting safety, well-being, and support for those affected by family violence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing services using a client centered, strength-based approach consistent with agency and program philosophy
  • Provide support for individuals to overcome barriers so they can live free from violence
  • Answer calls and inquires for the Family Violence prevention Centre- this will include supporting clients who are in crisis
  • Assess for risk and needs and develop safety plans as required
  • Conduct intake assessments to determine program eligibility and ensure participants are matched with the appropriate level of service
  • Provides referrals as appropriate
  • Assess client's household needs to ensure clients basic needs are met
  • Coordinate furniture delivery times and dates with FIND and any partnering agencies
  • Attend Furniture deliveries
  • Connect and refer clients to other furniture resources in the community and other referrals as appropriate
  • Maintain positive, professional working relationship with colleagues, external agencies and partners
  • Participate in agency and community committees
  • Participate in core agency training and additional ongoing training opportunities as directed and approved
  • Maintain and monitor all file documentation as per program/agency policy
  • Maintain accurate and timely data collection, data entry and completion of any program assessments and surveys as per agency and program policy
  • Complete monthly agency employee requirements
  • Contribute to overall agency purpose

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor of Social Work degree or a related Human Services degree and related experience
  • Thorough understanding of family violence dynamics and barriers as well as addiction and mental health issues
  • Minimum 2 years' front-line experience in delivery of family violence services
  • Experienced in risk assessment, safety planning and case management
  • Familiar with community resources including housing and financial resources, immigration, legal, child and family services
  • Professionalism within all aspects of employment and able to contribute to a positive team environment
  • Thorough understanding of victimization and the dynamics of domestic violence
  • Assessment, interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Excellent computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and video conferencing platforms)
  • Experience with client management database systems
  • Fluency in a language other than English would be an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with a safe, operating vehicle, clean drivers abstract, and must have 2 million liability insurance

  • This position has an immediate start date and has an end date of March 31, 2026. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
  • The office is located in the Transition Place Building at #401, Street.
