Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the optometrist in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring a smooth operation of the office. You will be responsible for assisting with various tasks, including patient interactions, managing electronic medical records, and supporting front desk operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical office settings, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping others.

Duties

  • Greet patients and manage front desk responsibilities, including scheduling appointments and handling patient inquiries.
  • Assist with patient care by preparing patients for examinations and providing support during procedures.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) using systems such as Epic.
  • Conduct preliminary tests and gather patient history to assist the optometrist in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Educate patients on proper contact lens care and eyewear options, leveraging optical experience when necessary.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient office operations and high-quality patient service.
  • Measure and dispense spectacle and contact lenses and maintain orders.
  • Handle retail sales of optical products, ensuring an excellent customer experience throughout the purchasing process.
  • Utilize medical terminology effectively to communicate with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Provide assistance in pediatrics as needed, ensuring a comfortable environment for younger patients.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a medical office setting is required; optometric or optical experience is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems, particularly Epic, is preferred.
  • Strong background in patient care and front desk operations is essential.
  • Experience in retail sales or sales techniques will be beneficial for assisting patients with eyewear purchases.
