Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Class 1 Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to handle various types of freight.

Responsibilities

  • Operate semi trucks and dry van / reefer trailers to transport goods in Vancouver Island area.
  • Operate 5 ton dry van / reefer trucks as required.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks safely.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members regarding delivery schedules and any issues that arise during transport.
  • Adhere to all local, municipal, and federal driving regulations.
  • Manage routes efficiently to minimize delays and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Ability to obtain a Dangerous Goods (DG) ticket
  • Clean driver's abstract

Skills

  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of freight handling procedures.
  • Basic automotive repair skills for troubleshooting minor vehicle issues on the road.
  • Experience operating forklifts for loading and unloading freight is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, dispatchers, and team members effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise during transportation.
  • A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Experience with dry vans, Reefer, Flat deck, Electric jacks, rail/tail gates is a plus.
