Chair of the North Shore Community Housing Action Committee (CHAC)
. CHAC is the
de facto
community planning table for housing on the North Shore. For more about CHAC, visit here. Note that this position is ideal for someone looking for a part-time, flexible role as it is a 14-18 hours/week position with hours variable throughout the week.

What You Will Do

1. CHAC Strategy and Operations

The CHAC Chair will:

·      Identify strategic and operational priorities for CHAC and execute work plans to achieve priorities

·      Maintain and enhance CHAC's strategic relationships in the community including with all levels of government, their staff, the development community, academia, First Nations and other participants in the affordable housing landscape

·      Advocate for affordable housing as the lead spokesperson for CHAC in the media

·      Coordinate submissions to all levels of government, the development community and other partners

·      Meet with elected representatives of all levels of government and their staff as well as developers, academics, First Nations and other parties in the affordable housing space

·      Research and draft submissions regarding housing development proposals, legislation, policy and other initiatives to advocate for more affordable housing

·      Undertake public education efforts on behalf of CHAC including media work, organizing workshops and other public education events

2. CHAC Funding and Administration

The Chair is responsible for the efficient operation of CHAC including:

·      identifying and applying for funding including grants and sponsorships and reporting to funders,

·      planning, coordination and facilitating CHAC meetings and other events including guest presentations, preparation and distribution of CHAC meeting agendas and minutes,

·      maintaining CHAC Records,

·      recruiting, training and retaining a diverse CHAC membership,

·      supervising CHAC volunteers, students and staff (if any),

·      ensuring and implementing appropriate Terms of Reference and policies for CHAC.

Who You Are

·      A bachelors or graduate degree in planning, geography, communications, public policy or related field as well as experience working on housing affordability

·      Excellent research, written/oral communication and public speaking skills in English

·      Knowledge of responsibilities for housing among all three levels of government is an asset

·      Capacity for superior relationship building and impactful collaboration with partners

·      Understanding of facilitation (dialogue and deliberation) skills and techniques is an asset

·      Experience or exposure to working in/for a not for profit organization

·      Superior organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs

·      Demonstrates integrity, tact, diplomacy, empathy

·      Knowledge of housing affordability issue and experience working with people who have experienced housing insecurity are assets

·      The successful applicant is subject to a criminal record check

What We Offer

Compensation includes $35-38/hour wage. N
