2nd Class Power Engineer - Relief Chief Power Engineer.

  • Provides supervision and direction to Power Engineers while on shift, in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
    Ensures that work assigned to Power Engineers is completed safely. Coordinates work assignments, distributes, and delegates tasks.
  • Covers Chief Engineer and Shift Engineers for vacations, illness, training or other absences as required.
  • Orders chemicals, enters MWOs and PR's, assists with scheduling of operators, writes MOCs as needed for changes. Assists in maintenance planning and project work, acts as the department Liaison for Delta V and Success Factors, prepares and writes up new SOPs and rewrites old SOP's and assists with training new employees
  • Ensures that all utilities, i.e. steam, air, water, fire and waste systems are supplied to the plant for both consumption and uninterrupted production. Conducts daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Use personal accountability to assist in carrying out duties, responsibilities, and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices, and procedures. Understand HSE policies and programs. Work safely, in accordance with health and environmental requirements.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer's License, knowledge of the Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels and fuels.
  • Working towards the completion of the 1st Class Power Engineer license through TSSA is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations.
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation/transmission technology, water and wastewater treatment, including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet. SAP knowledge/experience would be an asset.
  • Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management.
  • Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes, procedures and experience with TSSA regulations on several levels.
  • Proven experience with diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving to resolve issues effectively. Related experience in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records. Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy. In addition, must have previous experience with Health and Safety practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment, ideally a chemical processing facility.
