WestView Learning (WVL Centre Society) provides educational/social day programs for home schooled students, tutoring after school, and STEAM programming after school from September through June. When schools are out, WVL provides day camps. Our primary goal is to empower each of our students in their learning journey.

Job description

WVL's day programs run between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Staff work with students 1-1, or in small groups of 2-4. Many of our learners have difficulties with reading, writing, and math but this does not prevent them from engaging with a full range of learning activities at their grade level.

WVL's tutoring program occurs 8:15 - noon, and 2:00 - 6 Monday through Friday and Saturdays 9:00-2:00.

Thematic day camps run when schools are out from 9-3 and some staff would prefer to also work at the camps.

Employee relationship with our students is a collaborative learning/discovery approach. Staff are assigned to tasks in their day depending upon skills/interests.

Qualifications include:

  • proficiency in K-10 math, reading, writing
  • experience working with kids between the ages of 6-19 in academic subjects, craft, sport, community camp programs
  • Current Criminal Record Check
  • 2 References relative to your work with youth
  • experience problem solving from multiple points of view
  • proficiency with technology - including Office 365 applications

Responsibilities vary with the program; however, common responsibilities include:

  • be able to patiently listen and help students rephrase
  • provide guidance to students with firm, clear expectations, and calm follow through with choices
  • assist students to follow routines, personal schedules ,and behaviour plans
  • summarize daily interactions with students and the students connection to their daily activities.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $22.00-$27.00 per hour
