Telecommunications Fiber Optic Splicer

Overview:
Innexus Technical Services is looking for experienced and efficient Fiber Optic Splicers to join our team in Edmonton. Successful candidates will have previous experience in Fiber Optic Splicing for Telecommunications companies, which would include preparation, splicing, testing and troubleshooting of outside plant. Travel could be required to various areas throughout Alberta.
Job Responsibilities:
Safely operate a company vehicle to and from site.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Accurately read and interpret placing/splicing construction drawings.
Prepare fiber cabling in service vaults, pedestals and manholes.
Build fiber optic splice closures (FOSCs).
Ribbonize loose tube fiber for ribbon splicing.
Operate different types of single and ribbon mass fusion splicers, i.e. Fujikura and Sumitomo.
Utilize an OLTS, OTDR and other testing equipment to ensure acceptable installation.
Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects.
Assist with installation of other infrastructure when needed i.e. fiber cable, terminals, etc.
Report project progress to the assigned supervisor and communicate any issues or expected delays.
Upload documentation as required i.e. pictures, redlines, test results, etc.
Ensure safety documentation and daily equipment inspections are completed.
Perform general maintenance requirements on equipment.
Work to ensure company policies and procedures are being followed.
Maintain a clean work space/vehicle.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
1-3 years of experience with Fiber Optic Splicing, specifically fusion splicing.
CFOT certification an asset.
Experience with working on existing facilities and in live fiber closures.
Prior experience working with aerial infrastructure an asset.
Have current required tickets First Aid, CSTS, WHMIS.
Confined space, Fall Protection and Bucket Truck an asset.
Must have/maintain a class 5 license and clean drivers abstract.
Previous experience with major telecommunications providers installation methods an asset.
Must be flexible in working various shifts and work throughout Alberta. (LOA provided).
Knowledge of health, safety, environmental practices related to the construction industry.
Able to manage a physically requirements of the job and comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
Good work ethic with exceptional attention to detail.
Mechanically and mathematically inclined.
Ability to problem solve issues in the field that may arise.
Highly motivated and able to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $26.00-$34.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
