BCIT's School of Business + Media is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Broadcast Operations Technician. This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of broadcast operations support services, including responding to equipment requests and inquiries, and liaising and collaborating with Faculty, Staff, Students and Broadcast Engineers. Coordinates, reviews and maintains equipment rental procedures and processes for classes and clients. Organizes and arranges equipment bookings, check-ins and check-outs; examines, tests, and maintains equipment; triages, troubleshoots, and resolves basic equipment issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the equipment database (Connect2); inputs, modifies and updates data; maintains user accounts and booking system settings.
  • Ensures all equipment is in good operating order prior to the client taking possession of the equipment. Checks for any damage, malfunctions, service issues and missing items upon the equipment's return; diagnoses equipment issues and determines best means for repair.
  • Triages, troubleshoots, and resolves equipment issues; coordinates with Faculty and Engineering on equipment issues, damage, and repairs; assists and/or completes equipment fault reports.
  • Supports, liaises, and coordinates with Instructors (across multiple programs), Broadcast Engineers, BCIT Staff, and Broadcast Operations Staff on all broadcast and media equipment needs, such as broadcast industry standard set-ups, studio configurations, professional equipment usage, equipment purchase and rental recommendations and coordination, inventory, planning and reviewing equipment required for class and assignments.
  • Performs client needs assessments and provides equipment demonstrations or orientation as required, including technical operation of specialized equipment, industry applications, and safe handling and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Creates, reviews, and maintains equipment packages required for class and assignments, inclusive of performing various installations:
  • Builds industry standard broadcast setups and studio configurations.
  • Builds equipment and camera setups.
  • Maintains equipment and condition of Studios.
  • Processes, reviews, compiles and provides equipment usage, costs, and inventory information to Administrative Manager and Broadcast Associate Dean.
  • Liaises with academic operations (School of Business + Media Dean and Associate Deans), retailers and vendors regarding equipment purchases, and equipment rentals required for class and labs, student projects and assignments, and School of Business Events and Marketing.
  • Reviews, maintains, and recommends updated suggestions to departmental procedures, standards, and policies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Requires a Diploma of Technology or completion of a two-year full-time program in a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Two years general experience plus four years of progressively responsible technical experience in a broadcast operations customer service environment. Experience must include troubleshooting broadcast operations and production equipment in a customer service context.

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:

  • Proficiency with PC and MAC, and Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to navigate inventory booking systems.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to translate technical information to students, Faculty, and Broadcast Engineers.

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Current and relevant knowledge of broadcast and media production industries; production sound, lighting, and related editing equipment and software.
  • Ability to provide technical support for a variety of broadcast and media production equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

Salary Grade 9: $66,284 - $71,964 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
