Jag Virk Law Professional Corporation is a successful criminal defence law firm. We are looking to add a criminal lawyer to our team

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and committed Associate Lawyer with a minimum of two (2) years of criminal trial experience to join our growing defence practice. The ideal candidate has a strong courtroom presence, a passion for advocacy, and the ability to independently manage a varied caseload from intake to trial.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a broad range of criminal files at all stages, from bail to trial and sentencing
  • Represent clients at various court levels, including Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court
  • Conduct legal research, draft Charter applications, submissions etc
  • Maintain regular client communication and manage expectations
  • Work collaboratively with other counsel and legal support staff
  • Participate in firm meetings and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing with law society
  • Minimum 2 years of experience practicing criminal law, with demonstrated trial experience
  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload independently
  • Ability to assess files critically and provide strategic advice
  • Experience with legal aid files and managing clients with complex needs is an asset
  • Multilingual candidates or those with experience in mental health or youth court are encouraged to apply

Compensation based on experience:

$80,000 - $200,000

Hybrid + Option to work from home some days of the week.

Possibility to work from Toronto office as well
