What This Position is About:

We are seeking qualified and experienced curriculum developers to contribute to the design and development of the new Veterinary Technician Ontario College Diploma program at Fleming College. This role is critical in shaping a high-quality, accredited curriculum that meets provincial standards and prepares students for careers in veterinary medicine.

The Veterinary Technician program will provide specialized training across four semesters in an immersive delivery format. Theoretical lessons will be delivered online, and practical lessons will be delivered in an active veterinary clinic. Students will consolidate their knowledge and skills during immersive learning experiences in every semester of the program, culminating in a veterinary practicum in the final semester. Focus within the curriculum will include simulation and Indigenous Perspectives provided through an immersive delivery format in a veterinary clinic.

The successful candidates will collaborate with subject matter experts, regulatory bodies, and academic stakeholders to create engaging, outcomes-based learning experiences that align with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians educational program requirements.

Key responsibilities include: designing and developing course outlines, lesson plans, assessments, rubrics, and instructional materials; ensuring curriculum aligns with accreditation standards and professional competencies; integrating adult learning principles, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and AODA compliance; collaborating with faculty, clinical partners, and advisory committees; developing multimedia and online learning resources using Desire2Learn; participating in curriculum review meetings and incorporating stakeholder feedback; and preparing instructor guides, student handouts, and digital assets for each course.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Veterinary Technician Diploma from an accredited institution, Veterinary Technologist Advanced Diploma from an accredited institution, or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited institution, or equivalent education.
  • Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Education, Animal Sciences, or a related field is preferred.
  • Current registration with and good standing status as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians or current registration and good status standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
  • Minimum of five years of recent clinical experience as a Veterinary Technician/Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Prior curriculum design experience or post-secondary teaching is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Desire2Learn, and educational technologies.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • The role requires self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.
