The Production Engineer provides engineering support to the business unit for all aspects of component repair related to development of minor repairs and continuous improvement programs. You'll collaborate with other departments to ensure that our products and services meet the highest industry standards and maintain compliance to relevant airworthiness and contractual requirements.

What You'll do:

SMS (Safety Management System):

  • Recognize and understand flight safety critical parts and processes.
  • Responsible for reporting flight safety concerns.
  • Participate in proactive risk analysis of flight safety critical parts and processes.

Production Support:

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for Component Reworks cells.
  • Act as a conduit between business unit and organizational functions (customer service, operations, quality, service engineering, process engineering, and technical airworthiness group) in resolving technical production problems.
  • Own, generate, maintain, and update Reworks Process Instruction (RPIs), Temporary Overhaul Data Revisions (TODRs), matrix codes, related to repair.
  • Prepare production routings and detailed repair instructions based on technical data.
  • Write technical reports and proposals; develop work instructions.
  • In compliance with company instructions and the Design Approval Organization, execute MRB documentation and NCTs, TODRs and Temporary parts list revisions (TPLRs).
  • Provide process-related training with other support personnel.

Repair Development and Implementation:

  • Determine the actions necessary to develop new repairs from engineering data.
  • Contribute to the planning and repair trials to generate data for new repairs or to support existing repairs. 
  • Analyze and document the results of repair trials.
  • Propose, researches, and perform cost benefit analysis for new equipment purchases.
  • Act as a liaison to coordinate the activities of Engineering and Operations during the implementation of new repairs and processes.

Process Control and Improvement:

  • Analyze, develop and recommend methods to meet production requirements, improve economy and quality, and reduce turn-around-times for products and/or processes with supporting cost analysis.
  • Establish, analyze, and act upon measures of performance related to processes.
  • Investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies relating to equipment and processes to reduce variation and improve reliability.

Other:

  • Coordinate and interact with the outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for process support, improvement, or repair development.
  • Provide support, technical expertise and experience to the Design Approval Organization (DAO) necessary to make airworthiness engineering decisions.
  • Remain current with state-of the-art technologies and processes.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned.

What Skills You'll need

Basic Qualification

  • Degree or Diploma in aerospace, mechanical, or metallurgy engineering, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong project management, planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine/accessory design theory, basic machine shop practices, basic gas turbine metallurgy, and familiarity with engine manuals.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the ability to interpret drawings.
  • Knowledge of failure modes and effects analysis.
  • Knowledge of quality requirements as they pertain to airworthiness and contractual requirements.
  • Experience in an aerospace or manufacturing process engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials and remanufacturing processes (e.g. welding, thermal spray, metal removal, heat treatment, bench operations, plating, painting, etc.).

Background Information

The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to completion of a university (bachelor) program in a specialized field of study and work.  The work requires a sound understanding of the underlying theoretical principles and concepts associated with the subject area and an understanding of the relation of these to the responsibilities of the job.  This specialized training is often recognized by a degree and/or professional designation.

Ongoing work assignments typically have clearly defined goals, but no (or minimal) direction with respect to what action steps to follow.  The incumbent's education, training, and previous experience will help ensure that the goal of the assignment can be clearly defined and understood (even if that means just knowing what relevant questions to ask), but the required/optional approaches to achieving the goal will often remain unclear, undefined and/or untested until the work assignment is well underway.
