Disability Community Support Worker (Casual) – Able to Communicate in Persian & English

Location: Edmonton, Alberta (preferably South or willing to work in South)

Job Type: Casual

Hours: 18 hours per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, approx. 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Additional: Opportunity to take casual relief shifts as available

This role involves supporting an individual with a visual impairment and requires comfortable communication in Persian and English.

Position Summary

The Disability Community Support Worker provides direct care and individualized support to adults with disabilities in both home and community settings.

This role focuses on independence, well-being, safety, and active participation through respectful, person-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal assistance with daily living (hygiene, dressing, grooming, meal preparation)
  • Administer or remind clients about medications according to care plans
  • Offer companionship, emotional support, and encouragement
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and lifting to ensure safety and comfort
  • Support community participation, social outings, and recreational activities
  • Observe, document, and report changes in health, behavior, or needs
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment (including light housekeeping)
  • Complete accurate documentation of daily care, progress, and incidents
  • Collaborate with team members, families, and supervisors to ensure high-quality care

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience in disability support, community care, or home support (preferred)
  • Knowledge of person-centered care and respectful support practices
  • Comfortable assisting with mobility, lifting, personal care, and supporting individuals with visual impairments
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, patient, and compassionate approach to care
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check (within the last 6 months)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification (Basic or Standard)
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (18 hours/week, Tuesday–Thursday, approx. 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) and additional casual relief shifts as available
  • Ability to communicate with the client in Persian and English – REQUIRED
  • Preference for candidates who live in South Edmonton or are willing to work there
