Job Description

The Receiving Coordinator (Dock Master) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of loading docks across commercial, retail, and residential facilities. This role ensures the safe and efficient flow of goods, coordinating with vendors, residents, truck drivers, and internal team members to manage move-ins, move-outs, and deliveries.

The Dock Master also oversees scheduling, maximizes dock usage in coordination with concierge and property management teams, and ensures compliance with all safety and operational standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Dock Operations

  • Supervise loading/unloading and coordinate inbound/outbound shipments with drivers, tenants, and property management.

  • Schedule and allocate dock space, ensuring smooth and timely delivery flow.

  • Manage residential move-ins/outs, deliveries, and assist with waste preparation for pickup.

  • Inspect and report dock equipment, overhead doors, and loading facilities for maintenance or replacement.

  • Ensure readiness for specialized services (e.g., grease trap extraction) and document damaged shipments.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce safety policies and conduct regular inspections per OSHA/WHMIS/CCOHS standards.

  • Maintain certification and inspection records; participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).

  • Train dock users on safe loading, unloading, and material handling procedures.

Staff Supervision

  • Train and support dock staff, promoting teamwork and operational efficiency.

Facility Management

  • Maintain cleanliness and order of dock areas; monitor and report maintenance needs.

Communication and Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with drivers, vendors, and management; resolve issues promptly and maintain accurate dock activity logs.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands.

  • Basic knowledge of warehouse management systems

  • Physical ability to perform tasks associated with loading and unloading (lifting, standing, moving).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in dock or warehouse operations, preferably in a commercial or retail environment.

  • Strong understanding of loading dock safety and logistics processes.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with inventory tracking software.

  • Certification in forklift operation or other relevant equipment.

Work Schedule: Employees are expected to work onsite.

  • Regularly lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • If driving a company-provided vehicle:  coordinate hands and feet, incorporating vision and hearing, to drive safely.
