Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, respectful, and reliable Personal Support Worker to provide one-on-one care for an individual in Ajax who has recently experienced a traumatic event.

To respect the client's personal care needs, privacy, and cultural comfort, this role requires a female support worker who is familiar with Muslim cultural practices. This requirement is based solely on the client's expressed needs and trauma-informed care considerations, in accordance with applicable human rights guidelines.

This role is ideal for someone who values dignity, respect, cultural sensitivity, and person-centred care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed personal support and emotional reassurance
  • Assist with daily living activities and personal hygiene
  • Support seniors' care needs in a respectful and professional manner
  • Assist with mobility needs, which may include heavy lifting
  • Administer medications following proper protocols
  • Provide support in hospice or end-of-life situations as required
  • Prepare nutritious meals, including accommodation of cultural or dietary requirements
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive home environment
  • Collaborate with nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
  • Offer companionship and consistent home-care support

Requirements

  • Canadian PSW Certificate or active OPSWA membership (mandatory)
  • Experience in personal support, home care, assisted living, or similar healthcare settings
  • Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic, trauma-informed care
  • Strong communication skills and a patient, supportive approach
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including heavy lifting
  • Knowledge of proper medication administration procedures
  • Experience with senior care, hospice care, or assisted living is an asset
  • Ability to prepare meals that may follow cultural or dietary guidelines
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and any additional training required for the role
