Duties And Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist or a Registered Pharmacy technician;
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for dispensing, crediting returns, and monitoring expiry dates, stock levels, etc.;
  • Prepare bulk-compounded products as required;
  • Monitor expiry dates and remove expired products for disposal, destruction or return to manufacturer consistent with facility policies and manufacturers, protocols;
  • Process expired narcotics and controlled drug to obtain approval for proper disposal;
  • Dispense in blister package, dossett or other patient adherence device as required;
  • Using the appropriate pharmacy information system, place orders maintaining appropriate documentation, e.g., purchase order, receiving report, packing slip, invoice and other relevant documentation;
  • Compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act; established infection and prevention control best practices (e.g. IPAC core competencies); and Code of Ethics from the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled at a recognized Pharmacy technician program at Community College;
  • Prior experience in implementing pharmacy automation system preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and Kroll software an asset;
  • Strong skills in pharmaceutical calculations; computerized materiel management and inventory control procedures an asset;
  • Familiarity with basic medication safety principles;
  • Good record of attendance and punctuality;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the pharmacy team.
