About the Company
Our client, a dynamic mid-sized law firm located in downtown Toronto is seeking a Personal Injury Legal Assistant to join their Litigation team. This role requires only
2 days in office
. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is looking to grow with a leading firm long-term.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, compile, file, and serve pleadings, affidavits, motion records, appeal records, and other court documents in accordance with the Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice directions.
- Organize and maintain a high volume of physical and electronic claimant files.
- Draft and prepare correspondence to clients and third parties.
- Prepare cheque requisitions, trust deposits, and expense reports.
- Enter dockets in the accounting system for assigned lawyers.
- Communicate with clients and third parties in a professional and courteous manner.
- Prepare and assemble retainer packages and other legal correspondence.
- Receive, distribute, and electronically file incoming mail and documentation.
- Pull dockets and assist in the preparation of Bill of Costs documents.
- Conduct file reviews and assist with large-scale claims administration projects.
- Prepare and revise document templates as needed.
- Verify payments and settlements with assigned lawyers.
- Assist in training new team members on internal systems, including Filevine and Excel.
- Perform other administrative and legal support duties as required.
Requirements
- Legal Assistant diploma or certificate.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in litigation or class actions.
- Bilingualism in French is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge of Filevine and ProLaw Accounting systems considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court filing processes, including CaseLines.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational ability, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills.
