Sweet Thea Bakery is looking for a retail professional at our new Main Street location, preferably with barista experience. We are in a great neighborhood, close to Queen Elizabeth Park and the Nat Bailey Stadium. Sweet Thea on Main Street is a combination bakery and coffee shop, with a small menu for breakfast, lunch, and brunch service. We are open 7am - 7pm daily, seven days a week.

Sweet Thea is well known in the community for high quality baked goods, with all items hand-made using real ingredients. We are community minded, and striving to create an upbeat, safe and friendly environment for our staff, friends and customers. You will be joining a strong and competent team, and will need to be flexible and communicative in day-to-day tasks; we are currently hiring because our business is brisk and we need shifts covered.

As we are baking on-site, this is not a good position for anyone who is gluten or dairy intolerant, sorry. If you are considering commuting - we are at 32nd and Main Street in Vancouver - not all transit routes get here easily, so applicants who live close will have priority.

Please note that some candidates will be contacted for a zoom pre-interview, which will lead to an in-person interview. Job is 4-5 x 7 hour shifts per week and will include weekends and some holidays. Training shifts will be available in the first week of May.

Fluency in English will be important, as we often have a lineup and need to process customer requests and transactions quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Take customer orders and provide exceptional customer service

  • Operate cash register and handle cash transactions accurately

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee shop area

  • Assist with food preparation and ensure food safety guidelines are followed

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations

Experience:

  • Previous experience in the coffee service industry is essential

  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures and using a point-of-sale (POS) system is a plus

  • Ability to handle food safely and follow proper hygiene practices

  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude

  • Solid experience in preparation of coffee bar specialty drinks (cappuccino, lattes, etc); sorry only fast food experience like Wendy's or Tim Horton's will not be called in for an interview;
