What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Response, this position oversees and coordinates daily activities of licensed skilled trades and maintenance staff, ensuring safe, high-quality execution of preventative and corrective work across airport systems and facilities. They provide hands-on technical guidance, manage work orders through Maximo, support asset lifecycle planning, and lead emergency response efforts. This role also plays a key part in mentoring staff, promoting a safety-first culture, and driving operational efficiency through strategic resource management.
As a Technical Support Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance Response, you will:
- Coordinate and assign daily work orders to skilled trades and maintenance staff, ensuring alignment with schedules and trade competencies.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and act as a subject matter expert in one or more licensed trades.
- Supervise field execution of maintenance and repairs, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead daily kick-off meetings, safety talks, and on-the-job training to promote a safety-first culture.
- Oversee after-hours Stores operations and fleet distribution, ensuring inventory and vehicle readiness.
- Maintain accurate work order data in Maximo and support asset lifecycle management through technical reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with system owners and technical specialists to improve preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
- Support emergency response efforts and participate in post-incident debriefs, offering technical and leadership input.
- Mentor apprentices and junior staff, and contribute to training program development and trade skill advancement.
- Provide input on staffing, performance evaluations, and corrective actions to support team development and operational excellence.
This unionized position is classified at the Band 9 level, with an hourly wage of $57.66, based on a 40 hour work week. A practical test will be administered as a part of the competitive process.
Candidates with relevant external experience must provide references with their applications in order to confirm this experience.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Certificate of Qualification in one of the following trades: Plumber, Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer, Carpenter, Electrician or Millwright.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed skilled trade, as outlined above.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance or facilities environment.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and D/A AVOP certification.
- Able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
- Diploma or degree in Facilities Management or a related discipline, preferred.

- Comprehensive understanding of building systems—including electrical, plumbing, life safety, and structural components—with the ability to oversee and troubleshoot across disciplines.
- Skilled in delivering clear, actionable instructions and resolving complaints with professionalism and empathy, fostering trust and accountability.
- Adept in conflict resolution and mediation, with the ability to navigate interpersonal challenges and maintain team cohesion under pressure.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to assess priorities quickly in time-sensitive situations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Proven track record in reducing equipment downtime, optimizing resource allocation, and driving continuous improvement in maintenance efficiency.
