Bialik Hebrew Day School seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Grade 5 teacher to join our dynamic educational team to cover a parental leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing engaging, multi-disciplinary lesson plans aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. This role requires a passion for working with students in a warm and inclusive learning environment that focuses on a holistic approach to education.

This is a full-time position from January 2026 to the end of the academic year and is located at our Viewmount branch in midtown Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Implementation

  • Implement a comprehensive and integrated program that aligns with the Ontario Curriculum
  • Integrate social-emotional learning into daily activities and lessons
  • Use inquiry-based learning strategies to encourage curiosity and exploration among students

Instruction

  • Facilitate engaging and developmentally-appropriate learning experiences for children.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Foster a love for learning through creative and interactive activities

Student Assessment and Support

  • Assess and monitor student progress in all subject areas in the Ontario Curriculum
  • Provide individualized support and feedback to help each child reach their full potential
  • Collaborate with support staff to address the diverse needs of students
  • Write student progress reports

Classroom Management

  • Create a positive, safe classroom environment that promotes respect and cooperation
  • Implement effective and developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies to maintain a productive learning atmosphere
  • Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies

Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, fellow teachers and school administration
  • Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and school meetings
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification (OCT) with Junior Division qualifications
  • Knowledge of Ontario Growing Success Policies

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in integrating technology intentionally into the learning environment
  • Strong interest in numeracy and literacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm about inquiry and kinesthetic approach to learning
  • Energetic and passionate about fostering a love for learning in students
