Columbia Seal is a multi discipline subcontracting organization. We provide trade service within division 7 thermal and moisture protection, including: below grade waterproofing, firestopping, sealants, air barrier and coating applications, concrete restoration, and expansion joints. We work in multi-family residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects and building restoration. We like to provide quality work in a safe manner. We have been in business for 30 years and are looking to grow our team.
Our office is in Central Burnaby. We're 10 team members in the office and 50+ in the field.
We are looking to hire a quantity estimator to join our team and support the estimating operations and processes.
As Quantity Estimator, you will support our operations and objectives by
- Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings and specifications to determine material and labour requirements
- Perform detailed quantity take offs for construction disciplines as per scope of work, drawings, specifications and bidding instructions
- Prepare cost estimates using company provided templates and guides
- Prepare and maintain cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities for tender and project purposes.
- Request and analyze supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure accurate pricing.
- Develop and maintain unit rate databases and historical cost information.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement staff to align quantities and budgets with project objectives.
- Identify potential cost savings, scope gaps, and risk items during the estimating phase.
- Assist in bid preparation, including pricing summaries, scope sheets, and proposal documentation.
- Update estimates as design or scope changes occur throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track actual project costs versus estimates to improve future accuracy.
- Support value engineering efforts and provide cost analysis for alternative materials or methods with the support of the project management team
- Ensure all estimates comply with company policies, industry standards, and safety requirements.
- Promote a safe work culture
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Building Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years experience with quantity estimating and estimating process
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Things to know
- We currently use Planswift for on-screen quantity take offs and MS excel for estimating
- Job position is primarily office based with site visits as needed to verify site conditions
- Working hours are 730 to 4 Monday to Friday
