As a Technical Publications - Manager, you will oversee the entire process of creating technical documentation and manage a team of technical writers and technical illustrators to ensure the production of high-quality materials. This role involves planning, organizing, and coordinating the creation and delivery of technical documents, including user manuals, service manuals, parts manuals, training materials and machine label artwork. As a manager, you will be responsible for scheduling publication activities, developing improved methods for material creation, assessing team performance, and ensuring effective communication with other departments.

Location: 54 Morton Avenue East, Brantford, ON

Job Duties

  • Lead and manage a team of technical writers and illustrators to ensure timely and accurate production of technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain documentation processes and standards to ensure consistency and quality across all technical publications.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, such as product development, engineering, and service, to gather information and feedback for documentation updates and revisions.
  • Ensure that technical documentation meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Schedule and direct publication activities based on priorities to ensure timely delivery of materials to end customers.
  • Assess staffing requirements and provide ongoing support, mentoring, and training to team members.
  • Review and actively manage team performance
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, encouraging professional development and continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience developing and implementing methods for creating and streamlining the authoring and publishing process.
  • Able to provide training and support to technical writers and illustrators on writing and illustrating best practices, new tools, and technologies.
  • Willing to learn, open-minded, flexible, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Previous experience in technical writing, illustrating, and experience in managing publication activities, with strong organizational and proofreading skills.

Qualifications

  • Education and training within Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of technical writing, illustrating and manual publishing tools such as Paligo CMS, Adobe InDesign, SolidWorks and SolidWorks Composer.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Previous experience as a technical writer.
  • Experience managing technical publication activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with electronic files/folders.
  • Strong proofreading skills and ability to provide constructive feedback.
