Role Overview

We're seeking a seasoned HazMat Team Leader to oversee field operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor regional crews. This role demands sharp decision-making, technical expertise, and the ability to lead with clarity and confidence in high-stakes environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hazardous materials response teams in field operations across assigned regions
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations (TDG, WHMIS, PPE standards, etc.)
  • Conduct site assessments, risk evaluations, and incident command during emergency responses
  • Train and mentor team members on safety protocols, equipment use, and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate with shop foremen and regional managers to maintain readiness and operational efficiency
  • Review and complete manifests, corrective action plans, and client-facing reports
  • Support onboarding and continuous improvement of team systems and procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hazardous materials handling or emergency response
  • NFPA HazMat Technician certification (or equivalent) required
  • Proven leadership in industrial or environmental safety settings
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks (TDG, WHMIS, Provincial Waste Regulations)
  • Excellent communication skills — clear, concise, and adaptable across field and office teams
  • Comfortable with documentation, training delivery, and client interaction
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 3 or higher preferred)
  • ICS 200 Certification, First Aid, and other relevant safety tickets an asset, including NFPA 1081
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen living in Canada
