THE OPPORTUNITY:

We're seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator 2 to join our Roads team. Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, you'll operate heavy equipment, perform road maintenance, and support other departments as needed. This is a hands-on role that directly contributes to the safety and quality of life in Lacombe.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely operate light and heavy equipment for:

  • Seasonal road and lane maintenance
  • Stormwater drainage channel upkeep
  • Emergency and scheduled water/sewer infrastructure repairs (in coordination with Utilities)
  • Spring and fall community cleanup campaigns

Conduct daily inspections and basic maintenance on fleet equipment

Perform manual tasks such as:

  • Crack sealing, asphalt patching & pothole repairs
  • Concrete patching, sign maintenance & traffic control
  • Landscaping and general cleanup

Participate in on-call rotations and occasional weekend/overtime work

Maintain a professional appearance and courteous attitude when interacting with the public

Carry out other related duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Professional demeanor when representing the City

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 4 years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • Valid Class 3 Driver's Licence with Q endorsement
  • Clean driving record

Salary and Benefits: $2,400 – $3,000 bi-weekly (based on 40 hours per week dependent on skills and experience). The City offers a generous benefit package, including health and welfare benefits, a pension program, and 6% vacation (approximately 3 weeks) to start.
