About the Role

The Facility Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance, repairs, minor renovations, cleaning, and snow removal across Western Fair District buildings and property. This role works closely with the trades team and supports events and facility operations to ensure safe, functional, and welcoming spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform small repairs, minor renovation projects, and maintenance on machinery, equipment, or appliances.
  • Detect and report the need for major maintenance or repairs.
  • Participate in general cleaning, painting, and housekeeping of trades shops and administration areas.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and materials; order as needed.
  • Perform small furniture moves.
  • Regularly check and replace lamps and bulbs; test and document emergency lighting monthly.
  • Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Assist with snow removal and salting; document activities in the logbook.
  • Maintain daily entries in the Caretakers Logbook.
  • May manage contractors performing building maintenance work.
  • Set up and maintain the gray water collection system for the annual Fair.
  • Assist with setup for the annual Fair, trade shows, and other events.
  • Complete training and maintain certification for forklifts, scissor lifts, and aerial platforms.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WFD Health & Safety policies, and all applicable legislation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Experience with plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and power equipment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving aptitude.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work independently and collaboratively, promoting a positive and professional work environment.
  • Act as an ambassador for WFD in the community.
  • Follow all Western Fair District policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support organizational goals.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed while standing, sitting, or walking.
  • Continuous bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of medium weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of the position.
  • Willing to work evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
