Position Title: Director / Senior Tax Manager

Team Leadership: Leads and develops a team of 15 tax professionals

Overview:

HireNow Staffing is working on behalf of a confidential accounting firm client to hire a dynamic Director or Senior Tax Manager with deep technical expertise in private company tax planning and team leadership. This opportunity is for a forward-thinking tax professional who's ready to take ownership of a thriving portfolio, lead a seasoned team, and help elevate a firm known for its highly personalized, relationship-driven approach.

This is not your typical accounting leadership role. Here, you'll be seen as a strategic partner offering advanced tax planning insights, solving unique client challenges, and mentoring the next generation of high-performing tax professionals. You'll also collaborate closely with firm leadership to innovate internal processes, support succession planning, and build long-term value for clients and colleagues alike.

What You'll Lead & Deliver:

  • Oversee a portfolio of private company clients, delivering complex tax planning strategies tailored to each business and ownership structure

  • Manage and mentor a team of 15 tax professionals, including Senior Associates, Managers, and new CPAs-in-training

  • Conduct technical reviews of tax returns, memos, and planning documents to ensure compliance, accuracy, and value-add insight

  • Serve as the main point of contact for high-value clients, maintaining relationships grounded in trust, performance, and proactive service

  • Spearhead specialized tax projects involving reorganizations, estate planning, intergenerational transfers, and corporate structures

  • Evaluate and continuously improve team workflows, client service standards, and quality control procedures

  • Provide in-depth technical training and feedback to staff, fostering career development and retention

  • Partner with other service lines and firm leadership to drive client success through holistic advisory solutions

  • Keep ahead of changes in tax legislation and regulatory developments that impact private businesses and owner-operators

The Right Candidate Will Have:

  • CPA designation in good standing (Canada)

  • Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program (required for senior-level planning work)

  • A minimum of 10 years in public accounting, with significant experience advising private Canadian companies

  • Proven leadership experience as a Tax Manager or Senior Manager at a CPA firm

  • Proficiency with CaseWare, CaseView, and Taxprep software

  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor and grow a high-performing team

  • A track record of leading tax engagements and client relationships with precision, professionalism, and insight

  • Ability to work full-time onsite in the firms Vancouver office, with periodic collaboration at a Kelowna satellite office if required

  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, people-first environment

Compensation & Culture:

  • Base Salary: CAD $130,000 - $160,000 (commensurate with experience and role seniority)

  • Bonus: Performance-based, tied to firm contribution, client satisfaction, and leadership outcomes

  • Work Location: Vancouver, BC (headquarters); occasional travel to Kelowna office

  • Relocation: Not offered

  • Culture: Strong commitment to mentorship, client loyalty, work-life balance, and internal growth pathways

This is a rare opportunity to move into a senior leadership role at a values-driven firm where your voice matters, your expertise is respected, and your growth is prioritized. If you're ready to lead, elevate others, and influence the future of a dynamic tax practice we'd love to hear from you.

Note: The identity of the hiring firm will be shared confidentially with candidates who advance past the initial screening.
