Position Overview

The Manager of Advocacy and Support provides operational leadership to a team supporting youth who are at risk of, or justice-involved, through advocacy, mentoring, restorative justice, and community reintegration initiatives.The Manager provides leadership in program coordination and accountability, overseeing administration, ensuring expenses are in alignment with approved budgets, managing data and outcomes, and supporting funder relations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, inclusive services across all programs.

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Manager is an integral part of the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, collaboration, and continuous improvement across programs.

The ideal candidate is an experienced and compassionate leader who balances program management with a relational approach to leadership—cultivating trust, guiding growth, and empowering staff through reflective, supportive relationships to ensure young people succeed. They value collaboration, curiosity, and systems navigation, while fostering a dynamic and cohesive team culture that promotes innovation, shared purpose, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Development

  • Oversee the development and implementation of inclusive, strengths-based youth-focused programming. Guide staff in supporting individuals through goal setting, system navigation, and personal growth planning

  • Ensure programming aligns with organizational priorities, funder expectations, and community needs.
  • Lead the implementation of best practices in trauma-informed and restorative approaches.

Administration, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Manage administrative functions across programs, including data collection, reporting, and documentation.
  • Monitor performance outcomes and contribute to ongoing quality improvement and evaluation initiatives.
  • Prepare accurate and timely funder and internal reports, including success stories and outcome summaries.
  • Support proposal writing, grant renewals, and the development of new initiatives.

Financial & Budget Oversight

  • Work closely with the Director of Programs and Finance team to ensure program spending supports priorities while staying within approved budgets, promoting responsible and transparent use of resources
  • Track and reconcile program expenditures to ensure compliance with funding agreements.
  • Contribute to financial planning, forecasting, and sustainability strategies for mentorship and advocacy programs.

Funder, Partner & Community Relations

  • Support the Director of Programs in ensuring funding compliance and effective stewardship of funder relationships.
  • Assist with funder engagement activities, including site visits, audits, and relationship management.
  • Represent CJHS on networks, coalitions, and advisory groups related to youth advocacy, mentorship, and restorative justice.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise and mentor program staff, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development.
  • Develop and sustain a dynamic, collaborative, and cohesive team environment that fosters trust, learning, and shared accountability.
  • Promote reflective practice, wellness, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Model collaborative leadership and uphold a culture rooted in compassion, respect, and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social work, youth work, human services, community development, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in youth, justice, or community-based programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with target population.
  • Proven success in program management, budget oversight, and funder reporting.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead high-performing, cohesive teams.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and restorative practices.
  • Experience with logic models, evaluation tools, and outcome measurement frameworks.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Brain Story Certification is considered an asset.
  • Current Child Welfare Intervention Screen
  • A current criminal record check (CPIC), within the past three months is required.
