LOCATION: Saskatoon & Meewasin Valley Region, SK
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Regional Director, WR2A
Brief Overview:
Western Region 2 A – Métis Association Inc. is seeking applications from qualified individuals to support our Traditional Land Use Study for the Meewasin Urban Parks. This initiative is funded under the Parks Canada Agency's Urban Parks and Ecological Corridors program and is an important part of ensuring that Métis perspectives, knowledge, and history are represented in the development of a potential national urban park in the Saskatoon region. This is a contract/project- based position funded through Parks Canada. Salary/compensation will be aligned with project budget allocations. Working hours will fluctuate based on seasonal needs and weekly or monthly demands. This role may require up to fifteen (15) hours of work per week.
Key Responsibilities:Lead the creation, interpretation, and presentation of Traditional Land Use maps of the Meewasin Valley and Saskatoon region.Collect and input data, including drone imagery and/or video, oral history, and archival research.Develop and manage a cloud-based mapping tool (including online licensing, hosting, and subscriptions).Review and analyze historical, cultural, and community documentation.Support community dialogues, meetings, and engagement sessions with Métis citizens.Prepare agendas, reports, and presentations for the project team and Parks Canada.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of Métis history, culture, and traditional land use.Experience with research, mapping, and data collection methods (GIS or similar tools considered an asset).Strong communication and facilitation skills for engagement with Elders, youth, and community members.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a community-driven environment.Experience with project reporting and documentation.Additional Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.Must be willing to provide a Criminal Record Check.Experience with cloud-based mapping platforms or GIS software.Knowledge of the Meewasin Valley, Saskatoon region, and Metis homeland.Previous work in Indigenous engagement, land use, or cultural heritage projects.Priority will be given to Métis Nation–Saskatchewan citizens.Closing Date: October 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM Interested applicants are invited to submit the following:
