The Yukon public service has a unique opportunity for recent graduates who have a post-secondary diploma or degree but lack real-world work experience. With GradCorps, you can kick-start your career while putting your passion, ideas and energy to work with the Yukon public service.

The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources has a GradCorps opportunity for a Forest Management Technician. The intern will perform field data collection related to timber harvesting activities, monitoring projects and assist with data analysis. The participant will gain valuable forestry experience in a variety of ecosystems in Yukon in both summer and winter and participate in forestry operations, planning and research work. 

This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately May 2026 to May 2027. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary - $65,006

Essential Qualifications

A post-secondary degree or diploma in Forestry or a natural resources related field;Preference will be given to those with coursework in: forest mensuration, silviculture, forest harvesting, forest operations, vegetation identification, GPS, GIS, forest management, ecology, forest science, soils.Experience with data entry is an asset.Experience with report writing and analysis is an asset.

Excellent communication skills (written and oral)Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word & Excel. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Attention to detailReport writing skillsAnalytical thinking skillsAbility to work in a team atmosphere and independentlyEnjoys working outdoors in a variety of weather conditionsAptitude towards working safely in the field

Additional Information

Conditions of employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 driver's license; pre-employment medical clearance. Valid First Aid Certificate required within six months (training will be provided if required).

Job Requirements: Must be able/willing to travel throughout the Yukon. Available to work long hours, strong enough to carry heavy loads (field equipment, safety gear etc.) and be able to work/travel in a remote environment.  



NOTE: To qualify for the GradCorps program, you must:

• be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*

• have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past two years (2024, 2025 or 2026 grads – all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)

• have little or no work experience in your field of study

*If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation.
