JOB SUMMARY

The Access and Privacy Advisor supports AGLC's Access and Privacy program, including coordinating requests for information, coordinating training and awareness of access and privacy for AGLC staff, assisting with Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA's) and Privacy Compliance Reviews (PRC's), and liaising with Government of Alberta officials to ensure compliance with legislation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand and interpret Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), guidelines, and practices.
• Review Acts, regulations, and policies and procedures to identify privacy and security issues.
• Respond to and coordinate access requests, including identifying issues and making recommendations and consulting with relevant third parties.
• Liaise with Service Alberta and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and participate in the OIPC's formal investigation and review process.
• Provide advice and guidance on the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, and collaborate with AGLC staff on internal privacy compliance reviews.
• Assist with Privacy Impact Assessments of new, or significant amendments to existing, systems and initiatives.
• Develop and maintain policy and procedure guidelines and best practices of privacy and security measures.
• Develop and maintain internal Access and Privacy SharePoint site for AGLC staff.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Degree in Business or Social Sciences related field (relevant experience in lieu of degree may be considered).
• Minimum four (4) years of experience in an access and privacy environment.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of ATIA, POPA, FOIP and associated Regulations, guidelines, and practices.
• Awareness of privacy and security principles and practices including legal precedents.
• Strong research, analytical and interpretive skills and the ability to analyze policy, procedural, system and legal issues.
• Project Management skills to manage policy development and provide strategic and operational planning support.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Completion of the University of Alberta Information Access Program is an asset.
