Job Summary

Reporting to the Academic Quality Assurance Manager, The Program Review Officer is responsible for ensuring program and accreditation reviews are completed in a timely way, to the standards required by internal policy and external bodies (e.g. Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission) . They will work directly with academic and non-academic units to complete all aspects of program reviews, they will maintain a database and schedule of program reviews, and they will engage with policy development and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with units to assist in producing the self-study, including provision of institutional level information, context, and framing. Monitors progress of development of self-study, reviews self-study for compliance with policy before submission to external reviewers, suggests adjustments necessary to ensure timely and appropriate completion in accordance with policy.
  • Coordinates responses to external reviewer inquiries, either by addressing questions directly or by supporting academic units in preparing their replies.
  • Provides support and guidance for units completing accreditation reviews and translates to program review requirements.
  • Develops and maintains central resources for production and management of cyclical program reviews including tools and techniques to support units completing reviews.
  • Maintains a schedule of program reviews, a database of completed reviews, and produces reports for the Academic Quality Assurance Manager, Assistant Vice-President Academic, Senate, and Board as needed.
  • Works with academic support units to procure data/information for production of self studies, and, share relevant information learned from self-studies back to academic support units as relevant for continuous improvement.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with three to five years' experience working within a post-secondary or regulatory environment (or an equivalent combination of train and experience).
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and managing priorities to meet deadlines and respond to inquiries.
  • Familiarity with academic governance structures and external quality assurance frameworks.
  • Ability to working with diverse and numerous interest holders to gather and disseminate information, support others in completing work, and facilitating communication among various groups across the institution to ensure compliance with deadlines and policy standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to apply policy to and edit written communication for clarity and compliance, relay information to individuals and groups effectively.
