Garage Door Installer / Technician

Harbour Door Services has been serving Victoria and the surrounding area since 1986, providing sales and service of overhead doors, electric door operators and residential and commercial gate systems.

Our track record of success attracted the attention of Dakwakada Capital Investments (DCI), which purchased Harbour Door Services in 2022, further strengthening its presence in the overhead door sector, which includes overhead door companies in Kelowna, BC and Whitehorse, Yukon. DCI is a privately owned investment firm in Whitehorse, Yukon that owns and operates a portfolio of business assets for the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN). 

Position Overview

The Garage Door Installer / Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of residential and commercial overhead doors, operators, and gate systems. Working both independently and as part of a skilled technical team, this position ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Harbour Door's quality standards.

This hands-on role requires technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The Installer / Technician plays a key role in representing Harbour Door on-site and is expected to always demonstrate professional level communication and workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Service

  • Install, repair, and maintain sectional and rolling overhead doors, parking gates, and door operators in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  • Ensure all installations and repairs are performed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, codes, and company standards.
  • Assemble, align, and adjust door tracks, springs, cables, and control systems for optimal operation.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and diagnose faults to identify appropriate corrective actions.
  • Test doors and operators for proper function, balance, and safety performance.

Technical Workmanship

  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks related to door and frame installation.
  • Install and connect low-voltage electrical control wiring for door operators, sensors, and access systems.
  • Ensure all work meets applicable safety, building, and electrical standards.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
  • Accurately document completed work, time, and materials in service reports or job tickets.

Safety & Compliance

    • Follow all Health and Safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times.
    • Adhere to all traffic and highway regulations, driving safely and defensively.
    • Safely operate lifts, ladders, and other access equipment for work at heights.
    • Identify and report any unsafe conditions, hazards, or incidents immediately.
    • Support Harbour Door's commitment to maintaining COR-level safety standards and continuous improvement.

Customer Service & Professionalism

  • Interact courteously and professionally with customers, contractors, and other trades on-site.
  • Provide basic product education to customers regarding operation and maintenance of installed systems.
  • Represent Harbour Door with integrity and professionalism, maintaining a positive and service-oriented attitude.

Teamwork & Continuous Learning

  • Collaborate with fellow technicians, coordinators, and supervisors to ensure project and service goals are met.
  • Participate in company training sessions to expand technical skills and product knowledge.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment that values safety, quality, and mutual respect.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in residential and/or commercial overhead door installation, service, or maintenance preferred – we are willing to train individuals with related experience and a positive approach to learning and growth.
  • Experience with parking gates, operators, rolling and sectional doors is an asset.
  • Competent in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.
  • Welding and low-voltage electrical wiring experience preferred (training available).
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders, scissor lifts, or other access equipment.
  • Physically capable of lifting and handling materials weighing 50 lbs or more.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trades-related training (electrical, welding, construction) is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driver's abstract.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Victoria, British Columbia with travel to customer sites in the surrounding region.
  • Work is performed in shop, construction, and customer environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Regular driving, lifting, bending, and use of power tools required.
  • Standard work hours Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime or emergency service calls as required.
  • Must adhere to all company and site-specific safety procedures.
