CIVIL SUPERINTENDENT (GTA east location)

Company Introduction:

KAPP Infrastructure (Vaughan) is a Canadian Contractor with more than 40 years of experience in infrastructure construction projects. We deliver marquee projects in key markets including waterpower, hydro, underground works, large bridges, mass transit and other major civil works. Work in these markets is delivered in all geographies throughout Ontario and should be thought to include not only traditional project delivery, but all alternative modes such as DB, DBF, PPP and ECI. Our head office is conveniently located in Vaughan close to the 407 and 427 directly off Highway 50.

The Role:

We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a Civil Site Superintendent. This is an opportunity to join a company with over 40 years of construction experience. As a key member of the KAPP Infrastructure team, you will be committed to ensuring that you monitor every step of the construction process on a job including the planning stage right up to completion. Reporting to the Operations Manager and VP, Construction. Travel throughout the East GTA will be required.

This position will be supporting sites on the East End of the GTA

Here is what you will focus on:

  • Deliver the specified work within time, within budget, and to the desired level of quality and workmanship.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, consultants, trade contractors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies to prepare and execute project plans in accordance with contract documents.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and all other project meetings with stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status with all stakeholders as required.
  • Coordination of construction crews, owned and rented equipment, material supply, inspections, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain communication and working relationship with owners, subcontractors, contract administrators, and other stakeholders including local residents.
  • Correction of any deficient work.
  • Maintain up to date record of progress on projects.
  • Ensure compliance of all safety and work regulation policies with all labor forces, including subcontractors in conjunction with KAPP Health & Safety department.
  • Work with the rest of the Project Team with initial set up of the construction project including analyzing specifications, drawings, and construction schedule prior to mobilization to project site.
  • Track all rental equipment and labor.
  • Communicate contract requirements to Foreman.
  • Track and capture all out of scope or additional work not covered under the base contract and communicate with Project Manager.
  • Participates in KAPP continuous improvement projects.
  • Participate in company and project safety programs and initiatives, and monitor/ensure compliance for safety requirements.

  • Performs other duties as required.

What we are looking for:

  • 5-10 experience working as a Civil Construction Superintendent
  • Experience in heavy civil work with particular experience in sewer/watermain, earthworks, roadworks and bridges.
  • Extensive experience in the construction industry, including experience in supervisory, management or leadership roles is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or post-secondary education in a construction related field.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
  • Ability to successfully supervise a construction project.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Projects, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Municipal, Subdivision and ICI experience is a must.
  • Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards.
  • Travel and performing site visits is essential in this job.
