We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. This role is essential in supporting attorneys with various administrative and legal tasks, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and effectively. Experience in corporate law, estates and civil litigation is considered a strong asset.
Responsibilities
Corporate Law:
- Prepare and file corporate documents such as incorporations, amendments, and dissolutions.
- Maintain and update corporate records, minute books, and annual returns.
- Assist with drafting shareholder agreements, resolutions, asset and share purchase agreements.
Estates & Wills
- Prepare and draft wills, powers of attorney, and probate/estate administration documents.
- Communicate with executors, beneficiaries, and financial institutions.
- Manage estate files from client intake to final reporting.
Civil Litigation
- Draft, file and arrange for service of pleadings, affidavits, and motions.
- Prepare correspondence, settlement documents, and trial documentation.
- Co-ordinate with court staff, opposing counsel, and clients.
Qualifications
- Law Clerk diploma/certification from a recognized program, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience is a strong asset
- Strong knowledge of Ontario court procedures and corporate and estate practices.
- Proficiency with legal software such as PC Law, Fast Company, Case Lines, etc, and Microsoft Office Programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset, but not necessary.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 16 months
Pay: $34,400.00-$65,000.00 per year
