The Role: Staff Accountant

We're on the lookout for a driven and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team As part of the Agile crew, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of amazing clients, from cutting-edge tech startups to established construction firms and non-profits. You'll use your accounting expertise to deliver top-notch service while ensuring a seamless and enjoyable customer experience.

In this role, you'll own the weekly accounting cycle, handle client communications with ease, and get hands-on with process automation to streamline workflows and boost efficiency. What You'll Do

• Weekly & Month-End Tasks: Keep client accounts in top shape with weekly reconciliations and smooth month-end close activities. Accuracy and timeliness are key
• Payroll & AP: Process payroll and accounts payable reports like a pro, ensuring everything is correct and on time, because your attention to detail is second to none.
• Bank & Sales Recs: Handle bank reconciliations and ensure customers' financial data is perfectly synced across platforms. We love efficiency, and so do you
• Sales and Payroll Tax Remittances: Assist with tax filings and make sure we stay ahead of all those deadlines. No stress, just well-organized processes.
• AI-Powered Workflows: Use our automation tools to simplify and accelerate common accounting tasks. (We'll provide training. You just bring curiosity.)
• Customer Experience & Emails: Deliver an exceptional customer experience by keeping communication clear, professional, and friendly. You'll be the go-to person for email correspondence and gathering any needed info.
• Catch-Up Projects: Help clients get back on track with bookkeeping cleanups You'll step in to bring order and clarity to new clients.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with accountants, bookkeepers, and team leads to deliver a smooth client experience and support operational efficiency.
• Customer Experience Optimization: Be a voice for the client internally, identify pain points, recommend improvements, and help us continue raising the bar.

Who You Are

• You've got proven experience: You've spent 2+ years of full-cycle accounting or bookkeeping in a full-time professional capacity and are ready to take it to the next level.
• You've got the qualifications: You hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Management, or a related field. (A diploma in accounting is totally welcome, too)
• Tech-savvy: You're comfortable with QuickBooks, Dext, Google Sheets, and Excel, and you love diving into new tools and software to make processes better.
• Proactive learner: You're curious, you ask questions, and you're not afraid to share ideas. You adapt quickly and enjoy staying ahead of the curve.
• Detail-oriented: You've got an eagle eye for catching mistakes and resolving them before they turn into problems.
• Critical thinker: You don't settle for the status quo. Inefficiency bugs you, and you're great at finding solutions by looking at problems from every angle.
• People-Oriented Communicator: You enjoy working with clients and colleagues alike. Whether it's over email or a quick Zoom call, you're clear, kind, and professional.
• Team Player: You like contributing to a shared goal and supporting the success of the whole team, not just your own to-do list.

Bonus points if you:

• A desire to (or are currently working toward) a CPA or other accounting designation.
• Previous experience in customer service, public practice, or other client-facing roles.
• Excel/Google Sheets Wiz: Proficiency with advanced spreadsheet functions that support automating workflows (Bonus if you can write scripts).

• You've taken ownership of your client portfolio and built strong relationships.
• You've adapted to our AI-enhanced systems and begun using them to manage accounting cycles smoothly.
• You're demonstrating initiative by flagging issues, proposing ideas, and maintaining professional, people-first communication.

Within 6 months:

• You're handling full-cycle accounting independently across multiple clients.
• You're supporting team improvement by identifying process gaps or automation opportunities.
• You're helping newer hires by answering questions and modelling great client communication.

Within 12 months:

• You're a trusted team member and point of escalation for complex or sensitive client situations.
• You're training and onboarding new hires, offering not just instruction but context and clarity.
• You're improving workflows and helping the team continuously make things better, in big and small ways.

What We Offer

• Competitive Salary: Earn between $58,000 and $70,000, based on your experience and skills. Performance-based raises available as you grow your skills and take on more responsibility.
