Job Summary

We are bringing our bookkeeping and accounting function in-house, and as such, we are seeking a motivated finance professional to lead this role. The Controller will report to the virtual CFO, with dotted-line reporting to the CEO.The role will encompass all aspects of accounting and finance associated with an early-stage technology venture, including payroll, bookkeeping, monthly closes, financial reporting, annual review/audit engagements, income and commodity tax returns, and customer engagement tracking and reporting.

As the first full-time finance role in a high-growth venture, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all the accounting-related functions of the Company, including, but not limited to, the following:

• Accounting and bookkeeping;
• Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes and related reporting;
• Payroll (performed monthly and includes both salaried and hourly employees);
• Customer engagement tracking, including determination of revenue recognition, following up on the collection of open invoices, and calculating/reporting on engagement profitability.
• Annual review or audit examination (August 31st year-end);
• Quarterly HST/GST/QST filings;
• Annual corporate income tax return, including T661 (SRED) claim;
• Working with the vCFO, preparation of the annual Corporate Budget and related multi-year financial projections; and,
• Other duties as assigned.

Expected qualifications include:

• University degree in business, commerce, finance, or the equivalent;
• CPA designation;
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada;
• Reliability clearance, or eligibility to meet qualifications to immediately obtain a Canadian Government security clearance (typically requires the candidate to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada);
• Minimum of 2 years related finance work experience;
• In-house accounting/finance experience is considered an asset, specifically in the technology sector; and,
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.

Technical Skill Requirements, working knowledge of:

• Cloud-based accounting systems (i.e. Quickbooks Online)
• Payroll management and processing is considered an asset
