Role Summary

The Plant Manager oversees all warehouse and production activities, managing up to 20 employees, and providing leadership to Shift Supervisors to ensure daily production and shipping targets are achieved. The role is responsible for coordinating and optimizing operations across receiving, packing, production, and shipping, while driving efficiency and continuous improvement. The Plant Manager trains and develops supervisory staff, ensures adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards, and maintains compliance with company policies. This position works closely with the Operations Manager to plan and execute operational goals that support overall business performance.

What you will be doing?

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage all production and warehouse functions to meet or exceed daily volume and quality targets.
  • Provide direction to Shift Supervisors and ensure consistent application of organizational programs, policies, and standards.
  • Monitor production output and validate accurate data entry into the ERP system.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to resolve inventory discrepancies and material flow issues.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify process gaps, housekeeping needs, and equipment opportunities for improvement.

Maintenance & Equipment Oversight

  • Demonstrate hands-on mechanical capability to perform and oversee minor equipment troubleshooting and setup.
  • Schedule and monitor preventive maintenance (PM) activities, ensuring work completion and proper documentation.
  • Develop and oversee equipment cleaning schedules, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality requirements.
  • Ensure all temporary fixes are addressed through permanent corrective actions.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and safety.
  • Conduct regular shift meetings to communicate priorities, recognize performance, and reinforce improvement goals.
  • Train, coach, and develop supervisory staff to enhance leadership capability and operational performance.
  • Address performance issues, manage conflicts, and recommend practical, logical solutions.

Continuous Improvement & Quality

  • Drive efficiency, quality, and service improvements by identifying and implementing process enhancements.
  • Spot-check product weights, packaging, and quality to maintain standards.
  • Promote and sustain a culture of continuous improvement across all departments.

Employee Collaboration:

  • Communicates clear expectations for work outcomes to team members
  • Provides plan/goals to supervisors and discusses challenges and improvements required
  • Schedules overtime or hiring temporary staff members to meet production goals or handle seasonal workloads
  • Manages employee performance to ensure that they are meeting standards and completing tasks in a timely manner
  • Escalates concerns about an employee's performance to the plant manager

Safety, Training & Processes:

  • Must be knowledgeable and be able to follow GMPs, Food Safety and Health &
  • Safety requirements
  • Provides attention to all production processes to ensure they are carried out in agreement with safety and policies
  • Responsible for creating and supporting a safe, respectful, and productive work environment by observing and coaching employees and providing timely feedback on necessary action plans
  • Responsible for JHSC facility audit and JHSC meetings
  • Assists in accident investigations and takes an active role in WSIB case management and ensuring early and safe return of injured workers to modified and/or productive duties
  • Ensures that Safety, Production and Accuracy standards are met and provides JHSC recommendations or MOL work orders

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Packaging Equipment, processing, and hands on experience with troubleshooting an asset
  • 5-7 years of experience supervising in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Experience in MS Suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook
