Overview
Head Lifeguard:
Responsible for operation of the pool including maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, enforcing policies, procedures and regulations, and providing leadership to pool staff. Responsible for the pool and pool staff.
Hourly Rate: $23.17 to $24.09 (Band 5)
Instructor/Lifeguard:
Lifeguards and provides swimming instruction, skill evaluation, supervision of the participants, accident prevention, rescue skills, public education and public relations. Provides aquatic leadership program instruction and examinations (Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross) that meet the standards prescribed by the Lifesaving Society of Canada.
Hourly Rate: $21.63 to $22.50 (Band 3)
This job posting is for 18 Head Lifeguard / Instructor/Lifeguard positions (dual positions) and 8 Head Lifeguard positions temporary full-time (up to 35 hours per week) from approximately June 29th to September 7th. Priority for interviews will be given to current and returning staff. Interviews for new applicants will follow.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Program Delivery:
- Provide direction and feedback to pool staff and volunteers regarding work related matters.
- Ensure instructors conduct swimming lessons according to established procedures and program content.
- Ensure instructors evaluate student performance and maintain records of performance and attendance.
- Approve instructors swim lesson report cards.
- Organize pool space to balance needs of concurrent programming. Ensures appropriate program set-up/take-down.
- Provide guidance and support to ensure adaptive support to meet requested accommodations.
- Enforce water safety rules and regulations; perform rescues; perform first aid and resuscitation.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and other relevant legislation, as well as with City policies and procedures.
- Provide direction to pool staff; ensures the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and other related legislation is followed.
- Notify supervisor of staff performance problems.
- Respond to inquiries and resolves complaints. Reports escalated issues to supervisor.
- Report client conduct or behaviour that contravenes established rules or regulations to supervisor for resolution.
- Lead actions of pool staff in the event of a medical emergency, including immediate response and completion of accident reports.
- Implement heat response plan as required.
- Work with aquatic administrative staff regarding customer service issues.
- Resolve last-minute pool staffing issues and adjust programs as needed.
- Provide feedback to supervisor regarding program development and suggests improvements; assists supervisor with implementation.
- Assist supervisors in identifying and implementing staff training.
- Provide information related to all aspects of aquatic programming to parents, participants and pool staff.
Pool Facility
- Open and closes facility. Completes safety check record. Determines if equipment and facility/pool is safe to use.
- Inform facility management of pool maintenance needs, such as cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
- Ensure pool equipment is in good working order and identifies when equipment is in need of replacement or repair.
- Lead the aquatic team response during facility-related emergencies in collaboration with administrative staff.
- Check the pool water quality and records information.
- Respond to pool fouling. Determines actions to be taken to ensure issue is resolved. Adjusts programs accordingly and manages customer service concerns.
- Complete incidents, accidents, and fouling reports as required.
Other Duties
- Completes and approves time entry sheets.
- Fills in with scheduling conflicts/issues of lifeguards and aquatic instructors to ensure adequate coverage is maintained during operating hours.
- Performs Lifesaving Society Bronze examinations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience
- Minimum 3 months of related experience and 455 hours of instructor and lifeguard experience.
Additional Requirements
- Provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector check at your own expense as a condition of employment
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
- Current Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification
- Completion of Aquatic Supervisor Training course
- Current Lifesaving Society approved Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" Certification
- Current Aqua Fitness Certification is an asset
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record
