Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) is a Crown agency
responsible for skilled trades certification in Ontario, which includes:

  • Establishing
    apprenticeship programs,
    including training standards, curriculum standards and certification exams.
  • Administering apprenticeship programs
    , including approving apprentices and sponsors, registering training agreements and assessing applications for apprenticeship program completion.
  • Issuing certificates of apprenticeship
    to completed Ontario apprentices.
  • Assessing
    experience
    and qualifications
    of individuals who have not completed an apprenticeship program in Ontario.
  • Administering exams
    , including certifying exams, in all trades subject to certifying exams.
  • Issuing
    Certificates of Qualification
    in all trades with certifying exams.
  • Renewing
    Certificates of Qualification
    in compulsory trades.
  • Maintaining
    a Public Register
    of people authorized to work in compulsory trades.
  • Researching
    apprenticeships and the trades.

The
Supervisor, Skilled Trades Data Analytics
reports to the Manager of the Policy, Research & Data Department at Skilled Trades Ontario. This role provides leadership and supervision to professional staff responsible for data management, analytics, and trade analysis. The Supervisor ensures the integrity, accessibility, and strategic use of data to support evidence-based decision-making and policy development. The position fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in data governance and analytics practices across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the work of Junior and Senior Data Information Management staff and Trade Analysts, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of data and analytics outputs.
  • Develop and implement data governance frameworks, analytics strategies, and reporting standards aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead the design and execution of data analyses, dashboards, and reports to inform policy, research, and operational decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, quality assurance protocols, and security standards.
  • Provide expert advice on data interpretation and analytics methodologies to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with policy and research teams to identify data needs and deliver evidence-based solutions.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support data-driven initiatives.
  • Authorize staff timesheets, manage leave requests, and oversee workload distribution.
  • Conduct coaching conversations and provide regular feedback to staff toward performance reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Management, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory experience, including talent management and performance evaluation.
  • Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and privacy regulations.
  • Previous experience in a public sector or unionized environment is an asset.
