THE COMPANY

Your Bread Box is an Ottawa-based sourdough bakery dedicated to creating delicious, wholesome baked goods using locally sourced ingredients. Known for our naturally leavened sourdough loaves, we're now expanding our pastry program—bringing the same patience, skill, and love to croissants, danishes, and other butter-rich creations.

We supply to local cafes, restaurants, and retailers, and sell directly through farmers' markets and custom orders. Everything we bake is handmade with care, creativity, and a commitment to flavour.

THE ROLE

We're hiring a baker with professional experience in both artisan bread and laminated pastries to join our growing team in Carp. You'll take ownership of our sourdough loaf production and help lead our expanding pastry line—working hands-on with naturally leavened doughs and beautifully layered croissants.

This role is perfect for someone who loves the rhythm of fermentation, the precision of lamination, and the satisfaction of baking something exceptional from start to finish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sourdough Bread Production:

  • Mix, shape, proof, and bake a variety of sourdough loaves
  • Maintain consistent quality and fermentation standards
  • Manage production schedules and ensure timely bakes

Pastry Production:

  • Produce a range of croissants (classic butter, almond, chocolate, ham & cheese, etc.)
  • Create sweet and savoury danishes with seasonal fillings (fruit, custard, cream cheese, etc.)
  • Perform consistent and precise lamination of doughs
  • Proof, bake, and finish pastries to a high standard
  • Collaborate on developing and testing new pastry and bread flavours

General:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe workspace
  • Track inventory and manage ingredient prep
  • Support other bakery operations as needed

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 3+ years of experience in a professional bakery or pastry kitchen
  • Skilled in laminated doughs and naturally leavened bread
  • Comfortable with high-volume production and early-morning hours
  • Familiar with commercial baking equipment (mixers, sheeters, proofers, deck ovens)
  • Passionate about craft baking, seasonal ingredients, and small business growth
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Available 3–4 days per week.
  • 3+ years professional baking experience (bread and/or pastry)
  • Formal pastry or culinary training is an asset but not required
  • Familiarity with sourdough fermentation preferred
