We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Project Engineer to join our team and support the design, installation, and project management of industrial dust collection systems. This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow in mechanical design, industrial ventilation, and project execution while working closely with senior engineers, clients, and installation teams.

This position will focus primarily on project coordination, communication, scheduling, site support, and assisting with design work. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with dust collection fundamentals and become familiar with industry standards such as ACGIH Industrial Ventilation, the Ontario Fire Code, and relevant NFPA and provincial regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • Basic understanding of industrial ventilation (airflow, velocity, pressure—an asset)
  • Strong computer skills, especially MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote/Journal)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other drafting tools
  • Strong understanding of 3D visualization/drafting concepts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability and critical thinking
  • Process-oriented mindset and willingness to learn
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, assembly teams, installers, clients, and management

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Communication

  • Support day-to-day project management, scheduling, and coordination with internal teams, installers, suppliers, and clients.
  • Attend job sites with senior engineers to gather information, take measurements, and record photos/videos to support system design.
  • Communicate with clients and sales team to clarify project requirements, design intent, and site conditions.

Design Support

  • Assist in developing dust collection system layouts using collected site data.
  • Prepare hand sketches (MS Journal, Word, PowerPoint) to streamline 3D model creation.
  • Transfer field data and sketches to drafting staff for 3D modeling.
  • Participate in reviewing designs to ensure they align with ACGIH guidelines, Ontario Fire Code, and applicable regulations.

Technical Development

  • Take ACGIH Industrial Ventilation courses (company-supported) with a focus on dust collection design.
  • Build and maintain an internal reference library of codes and standards (NFPA, SMACNA, MOL, MOE, Ontario Codes).
  • Study applicable standards and update the library periodically as codes change.
  • Learn the fundamentals of fan selection, duct design, pressure drop calculations, and system components.

Future Growth Opportunities

  • Leading engineering calculations and full system design
  • Professional engineering development (PEO licensing expected)
  • Supporting or performing PSRs, DHAs, and Building Permit submissions
  • Managing full project lifecycles with increased independence
