Position Summary:

The Tenant Administrator Trainee position provides an Indigenous community member with hands-on training and professional development in the field of non-profit housing management. Supported through the program, this role offers a pathway for the trainee to develop administrative, financial, and communication skills necessary for a future career in housing or property management.

The trainee will work under the direct supervision of the Housing Manager and gain practical experience supporting the daily operations of our Indigenous housing organization, contributing to safe, affordable, and culturally grounded housing for our community.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Support

  • Assist with tenant applications, lease renewals, and annual Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) reviews.
  • Support office administration including filing, correspondence, and data entry.
  • Help maintain accurate and confidential tenant and property records.
  • Learn to draft tenant letters, forms, and official notices.

Tenant Relations

  • Respond to tenant inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Support communication related to maintenance requests, notices, and community events.
  • Participate in tenant engagement and community-building activities.

Financial and Reporting Assistance

  • Learn to process rent payments and track tenant accounts.
  • Assist in preparing financial or occupancy reports under supervision.
  • Understand basic budgeting and funding processes in non-profit housing.

Professional Development

  • Participate in training, mentorship, and cultural learning opportunities as part of the employment
  • Attend workshops, online learning sessions, or professional development courses as assigned.
  • Work toward building long-term employability in the Indigenous housing or administrative sectors.

Skills Development Outcomes:

By the end of the training period, the trainee will:

  • Understand the operations of non-profit Indigenous housing management.
  • Develop strong administrative and communication skills.
  • Gain knowledge of RGI, tenancy laws, and housing program compliance.
  • Build digital and office technology proficiency (Microsoft Office, housing software).
  • Strengthen personal confidence, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary training an asset).
  • Interest in administration, community housing, or Indigenous community development.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new software.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural respect.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
