Position Overview:

Active Lives is currently seeking supply staff to join our team This is a casual on-call position that involves working across our three campus locations, with two in Orangeville and one in Shelburne. The role includes offering support and guidance to program participants, assisting them in developing essential job skills, life skills, and leisure skills to enhance their overall well-being and independence.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities:

  2. Provide one-on-one assistance to adults with intellectual disabilities to ensure their safety, comfort, and engagement in program activities.

  3. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages individual growth, self-expression, and social interaction.

  4. Teaching Practical Job Skills:

  5. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences in various practical placements, including restaurants, volunteer buildings (reuse stores, farms, conservation areas, stores), and other community settings.

  6. Guide participants in acquiring and applying job-related skills, such as customer service, communication, and task completion.

  7. Continuing Education and Skill Enhancement:

  8. Collaborate with participants on improving literacy skills, fine motor skills, mathematics skills, physical education skills, and spelling skills.

  9. Tailor activities that promote continuous learning, personal development, and individual growth.

  10. Life Skills and Vocational Training:

  11. Assist individuals in acquiring new life skills and vocational training, including but not limited to aquaponics, culinary arts, woodworking, and computer coding.

  12. Provide patient and clear instruction to help participants build competence and confidence in these areas.

  13. Leisure Skill Development:

  14. Organize and lead leisure activities to encourage physical activity and creative expression.

  15. Offer opportunities for participants to explore leisure pursuits such as dance, drama, karate, swimming, Zumba, and other activities that promote socialization and enjoyment.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive relationships with program participants and team members.

  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to support individuals in their learning and growth journey.

  • Ability to adapt activities to accommodate diverse learning styles and individual needs.

  • Prior experience in teaching, support work, or relevant field is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • The role involves frequent interaction with program participants and may require physical activity and flexibility to accommodate various program locations and activities.

  • Work hours may vary based on program schedules and participant needs.
