Job Overview

Position: Casual Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Hours: On-call, Monday to Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Shifts range from 5 to 9 hours per day.

Note: This is a casual position where hours vary week to week. There are no guaranteed hours each week, it is dependent on the needs of the centre.

About Us

Prairie Grown Early Learning Centre (PG ELC) is a non-profit and subsidized childcare centre providing care for children aged 18 months to the end of kindergarten. At PG ELC, we embrace child-led play, focusing on creating enriching environments that incorporate sustainable materials. Our early learning programs are guided by the Ministry of Education's Play and Exploration principles. Our team of passionate Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) play a vital role in fostering children's strengths and abilities in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate setting.

Duties

  • Develop and implement child-centered programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and social development of children.
  • Supervise children to ensure their safety during activities and routines.
  • Engage children in age-appropriate activities like play, art, reading, and outdoor exploration.
  • Assist with meal times, personal hygiene, and toileting as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment, ensuring proper sanitization of toys and materials.
  • Implement positive guidance strategies that promote constructive behavior and support social-emotional learning.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and play-based learning approaches.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children, parents, and team members.
  • Ability to create and maintain an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity.
  • Clear criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check).
  • Familiarity with licensing regulations and standards in early childhood education.
  • Ability to assist children with personal hygiene and diapering as needed.

Pay: $15.56-$20.43 per hour
