Faculty, Art Foundations

BCIT's Digital Arts, Media and Design department within the School of Business is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Faculty for our Animation and Gaming program. The Diploma in 3D Modeling, Art and Animation offers a range of programs in the areas of Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with broad, practical knowledge within the Digital Entertainment and Interactive industry. We are seeking an individual who is committed to quality and innovation in meeting our students' needs and who values the importance of teamwork in the workplace. The successful applicant can expect to be assigned the Art Foundations course within our 3DMAA program focused on Animation and Gaming and must have a strong commitment to teaching and interacting with students, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and interest in developing and delivering quality curriculum, for an industry that's fast changing.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma or degree in Fine Arts, Animation, 3D Art, Digital Media, or a closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
• Minimum five years of professional experience applying traditional art principles within a 3D production environment (animation, games, or digital media).
• Strong foundational skills in composition, posing, lighting, form, silhouette, and visual storytelling, and the ability to clearly relate these principles to a 3D art and animation pipeline.
• Proven ability to guide students in applying 2D design and drawing fundamentals to 3D modelling, animation, and scene development.
• Demonstrated artistic proficiency in both traditional and digital media, with a solid understanding of perspective, color theory, and visual balance.
• Expertise with 3D software tools (e.g., Maya) and how traditional art fundamentals translate into a 3D art workflow.
• Expertise with digital painting and photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop).
• Demonstrated success in 3D production pipelines and current industry practices.
• Experience mentoring students in portfolio or demo reel preparation.
• Minimum five years of post-secondary teaching experience, including course design, delivery, and student assessment in art or animation-related subjects.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with a focus on mentoring and motivating students.
• Flexible, creative, and collaborative teaching approach, capable of delivering engaging, hands-on, and experiential learning sessions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent post-secondary teaching credential.
• Masters Degree in Fine Arts or higher

Salary Range

Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
