The National Health and Safety Specialist, reporting to the Group Director, Human Resources for Canada and USA. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Canadian Federal Health & Safety legislation under the Canada Labor Code Part II, Provincial Occupational Health & Safety Acts, and Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA). The position with execute health and safety programs that promote a culture of safety, to reduce risks, and ensure regulatory compliance through an effective level of work ethics, professionalism, and commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track HGC employee workplace injuries/accidents using PHS, maintain user database and resolve PHS services issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Workplace Injury Logs and validate prior to release of Monthly Injury Reporting.
  • Case manage employee incidents/accidents for WCB / WSIB / CNESST and US workplace injury claims Reporting and Return to Work Programs.
  • Reconcile Lost Time/Leave related to workplace or personal injuries for accurate time tracking and report on gaps to payroll.
  • Manage the Canada National JHSC Training Program, initiate training as required with OSG.
  • Source and provide updated OSHA Acts/Regulations to all locations annually.
  • Prepare and analyze employee data reports and submit Annual Compliance Reporting (Federal Employer's Annual Hazardous Occurrence Report (EAHOR) and Employer's Annual Harassment and Violence Occurrence Report (EAHVOR).
  • Provide various multi-source reports (Truck Right, Citation) required for compliance maintenance with ISN-CA and ISN-USA (Compliance Training, Analysis, Vendor requests, etc.)
  • Prepares the Annual OSHA Form 300, 300A and 301 for filing and distributes to HAI for posting.
  • Collaborate with Operations to develop new Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) or Training resources for Operations and provide technical guidance as required.
  • Conduct workplace Harassment & Violence investigations (Physical & Psychological), prepare comprehensive Investigation Report for review and recommendations.
  • Implement Corrective Actions and follow up on resolutions to update and close Investigations.
  • Conduct monthly Head Office Health & Safety Inspections and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor Health & Safety legislation, update to policies and procedures, SOP's within the Health & Safety Management Program to ensure adherence to 3 year compliance.
  • Communicate H&S activities/initiatives and provide guidance to HGC leadership team on H&S changes.
  • Track Safety Meetings in PHS and use for external reporting.
  • Conduct virtual and onsite Audit of H&S Notice Boards and locations annually and share findings for corrective actions.
  • Participate in random JHSC meetings in person or virtually, share observations and recommendations with the local committee on management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and other relevant applications.
  • Ability to create quality documentation and communications.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage employee data, identify gaps and support continuous improvement.
  • Ability to abide by Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, Confidentiality and maintain privacy of employee information.

Education and Experience:

  • University or College degree/diploma or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
  • Safety Certification Training.
  • Minimum 5 years recent of relevant experience in Health & Safety leadership, preferably in the transportation & logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II, Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations, Minnesota OSHA and U.S. OSHA standards.
  • Certified safety professional designation preferred (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, CSP, or equivalent).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience facilitating safety training across multiple locations.

Work Conditions
