Bring your technical expertise in road maintenance and strong planning and contract management skills to the Ministry of Transportation. Here your work will make a significant contribution to ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's transportation infrastructure.
About the jobIn this role, you will:
- administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
- monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
- ensure contractors maintain work records
- monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
- provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money
Mandatory requirements
- The positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
- understanding of road maintenance, inspection and repair in summer and winter conditions
- practical knowledge of road construction, practices, equipment and materials
- thorough knowledge and skills in contract administration
- ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
- proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
- ability to manage stakeholders in high pressure situations
- demonstrated negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
- working knowledge computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail
